Listen to Miki Berenyi Trio’s acerbic new single ‘Big I Am’

Miki Berenyi Trio, the new project from the former Lush frontwoman, have returned with the acerbic new single ‘Big I Am’ – check it out below.

The band, which also includes KJ ‘Moose’ McKillop and Oliver Cherer, are preparing to release their first album ‘Tripla’ on April 4 via Bella Union and so far have shared the singles ‘Vertigo’ and ‘8th Deadly Sin’.

Now, they have given another teaser in the form of ‘Big I Am’, a dreamy, lightly psychedelic track that sees Berenyi take aim at toxic masculinity and the corrosive impact of social media influencers such as Andrew Tate.

See the video for the song, directed by Sébastien Faits-Divers here:

Explaining the inspiration for the track, Berenyi has said: “I’ve witnessed 50+ years of the trends in masculinity and frankly, nothing much changes – as ever, there are good men and there are shit men, and there are boys who can be misguided but easily mature into the best of their sex. But this latest incarnation of ‘winning’ the sex war is a laughably infantile and willfully regressive new low.”

Berenyi recently spoke about Lush splitting up after their reunion gigs in 2016, saying that the difficult relationship she had with singer/guitarist Emma Anderson led to a falling out.

“Sometimes it was great. Sometimes it could be nasty,” she said. “I didn’t write about it in my book because I didn’t want it to be like Morrissey’s autobiography, with pages of boringly minute detail on the trial. But there was a falling out and, if I’m honest, it still hurts.”

In 2018, Berenyi formed a supergroup called Piroshka with Elastica’s Justin Welch, Moose’s KJ McKillop and Modern English’s Michael Conroy. Their debut album, ‘Brickbat’, was released in early 2019 via Bella Union.

She also released her memoir Fingers Crossed: How Music Saved Me From Success in 2022, in which she discussed her turbulent childhood and her experiences in the ‘90s music scene.
