Why Gracie Abrams Said ‘Yes Forever’ to Working With Selena Gomez and Benny Blanco

“The opportunity to write my verse on it just happened so quickly,” said Abrams

Gracie Abrams is helping Selena Gomez and Benny Blanco tell a bit of their love story — and working with the musical couple was a no-brainer. The three musicians spoke with Zane Lowe on Apple Music One on Thursday as they reflected on teaming up for “Call Me When You Break Up.“

“I’ve been a huge fan forever… For as long as I’ve cared about music, both of their work has been in my life,” Abrams said. “So anything that they want from me is a yes forever. And I just felt really grateful for the opportunity.”

“And also just the song was immediately so stuck in my head as soon as I heard it for the first time,” added Abrams of “Call Me When You Break Up.” “And, of course, the opportunity to write my verse on it just happened so quickly, which I think is such a testament to how addicting the song is I think.”

The new track is the second single off of Blanco and Gomez’s collaborative LP. I Said I Love You First, set for March 21. To Lowe, Gomez, described the project as “a little taste of what we are” and “how much we love each other.”

“It just felt like it was meant to be,” said Gomez.

“It’s Selena more than anybody else; she’s had such a journey in life, both personally, medically, and so many other things,” added Blanco. “She makes you just believe it… She’s scared of the fact of losing someone that she’s finally created a bond with where she feels comfortable enough. And somehow by God’s grace, I happen to be that person. I have no idea why, but I am.”

Gracie’s new collaboration with Blanco and Gomez follows Abrams’ The Secret of Us deluxe album last year. She’s set to go on tour later this year.
