Since taking office, the Trump administration has acted swiftly on immigration in the country, with Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) reporting a record 956 people arrested on Sunday (January 26) alone.

Earlier, this week, Gomez held back tears as she posted a video on Instagram: “I just wanted to say that I’m so sorry. All my people are getting attacked. The children, I don’t understand. I’m so sorry, I wish I could do something but I can’t. I don’t know what to do, I’ll try everything I promise”.

Following a backlash, the singer and Emilia Perez star promptly deleted the video and wrote in a subsequent story: “Apparently it’s not OK to show empathy for people”.

Now, Flavor Flav has hailed her for her comments. “Team Selena Gomez. Again. That woman is always so brave to share her truth,,, and so many are quick to bully her,” he wrote on X.

Gomez is the most followed woman on Instagram, with 423million followers, and the third most followed person after footballers Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi.

In the past she has has been vocal in her support of undocumented migrants in the US, hosting the show Living Undocumented in 2019, which focused on the uncertain future of families evading ICE deportations. She also wrote an op-ed for Time Magazine, telling the story of her aunt’s only journey across the US/Mexican border.

“Undocumented immigration is an issue I think about every day, and I never forget how blessed I am to have been born in this country thanks to my family and the grace of circumstance,” she said at the time.

Meanwhile, Madonna recently called out the US government over “slowly dismantling all the freedoms we have been fighting for”.

Elsewhere, Flav recently partnered with GoFundMe to create a fundraiser focused on helping black families who have been displaced by the LA wildfires.
