Charli XCX to Star in A24 Film With A. G. Cook Score

The Moment is based on an original idea from Charli

A24 is building its own Brat pack: Charli XCX will produce and star in The Moment, the feature directorial debut from photographer Aidan Zamiri with a score from A.G. Cook.

Charli developed the original idea the film is based on, which was adapted into a screenplay by Zamiri and Bertie Brandes. The Moment will be produced through the musician’s production company Studio365, marking its first major project. David Hinojosa’s production company 2AM is also attached.

Last year, Charli told Billboard she had three weeks booked off to work on writing a film in Poland. She wouldn’t share who she was working with at the time. “Well, I don’t really know if I should say because I also don’t know if we’re going to do it,” she said. “We might actually just go to Poland and not do that, but that is the idea.”

She explained that the film, should it come to fruition, would take place in Poland. “We would write it and shoot it at the same time, kind of like making an album,” Charli explained. “One of the guys is the director — he works that way all the time.” She was likely referring to Zamiri, who has a reputation for working quickly. He previously directed music videos for the Brat singles “360” and “Guess” featuring Billie Eilish, which Eilish told Vanity Fair was edited and released within days of shooting (Zamiri directed her “Birds of a Feather” video, too).

Charli’s cinephile side took over social media for a few days after fans discovered her Letterboxd account. The discovery revealed reviews of Moneyball (“This isn’t for British people”), A Complete Unknown (“There were a lot of songs in this”), and Challengers (“Was so amped after watching this I ended up going out til 5am”), among more than 200 others.
