Watch Coldplay’s ‘A Film For The Future’ – a 45 minute companion movie for ‘Moon Music’

Coldplay have shared A Film For The Future – the mesmerising 45-minute visual accompaniment to their latest album ‘Moon Music’. Check it out below.

Shared today (January 22), the film comes as a hypnotic companion film to the band’s 10th studio album and showcases the different styles of over 150 artists in 45 different countries.

Described by executive producer Ben Mor as “a kaleidoscopic patchwork quilt” and “a 44-minute multimedia tapestry,” the project was put together as each artist was given an assortment of snippets from the LP. They were then asked to create visuals that they thought aligned with the sound.

No rules or guidelines were implemented for the creatives, and they were kept in the dark about what style the other artists were going for – meaning each contribution is a raw reflection of their own style.

The film was teased with a trailer earlier this month, and today’s screening is available now on YouTube – watch below.

Later today, special 360-degree screenings are taking place at Lightroom venues in London, Manchester and Seoul, and a fan-led remix site for the film has been launched via Microsoft AI. Visit here for any remaining tickets to the screenings.

“It was a huge privilege to have the bird’s eye view of such an ambitious project, working with so many incredible animators and filmmakers all working independently of each other,” Mor said of the project. “The final film is simply jaw-dropping and I can’t wait for Coldplay’s fans to see it.”

“We’re very grateful to all the amazing artists who lent their genius to this film,” Coldplay added. “They’ve created something very beautiful and we’re extremely proud of it.

This isn’t the first time that the producer has worked with Chris Martin and co, as they also teamed up nine years ago for the Beyoncé-starring ‘Hymn For The Weekend‘ video.

Teasers for the film stem back to 2019, when it was teased on a car number plate for the band’s album ‘Everyday Life’. It was also shown briefly in the lyric video for ‘feelslikeimfallinginlove’ last summer.

The release of the project comes as the band are currently gearing up for a UK tour this summer, where they will take over stadiums in London and Hull. Also showing their commitment to helping provide support for grassroots venues, 10 per cent of their proceeds will be donated to Music Venue Trust. Visit here to purchase any remaining tickets.

Last year, Chris Martin spoke to NME for an exclusive interview around the new album, and weighed up the band’s future – explaining that they have an end in sight for releasing new music in the conventional setting.“Right now, and since about 2008, if something lands in me as a song or as a good idea and it feels authentic, we’ll do it. It doesn’t matter what anybody else thinks,” he revealed.

As for whether the band are still planning on ending their catalogue after 12 albums, Martin shared: “The 12 album thing is very real, and it’s a nice feeling. It doesn’t mean we won’t tour or finish some compilation things or outtakes or whatever. It just means that the main story is told. That’s just what feels really right.”

He also added that the deadline has led to the members having “more hunger” in their approach, and determined to make sure they don’t “dilute” anything they put forward.

You can check out NME’s interview with Chris Martin in full here, where he also spoke about his love of Fontaines D.C., IDLES, Chappell Roan, the band’s mammoth set at Glastonbury 2024, and their determination to help support grassroots venues across the UK.
