Taylor Swift is doing her part to support Los Angeles as the the city continues to face devastating wildfires. In a hand-written Instagram story on Thursday, the pop star called the fires “heartbreaking” and shared the names of the organizations she’s donated to, encouraging her followers to do the same.
The singer listed organizations such as MusiCares, Direct Relief, 211 LA, California Community Foundation Fund, LAUSD Education Foundation Emergency Relief Fund, Pasadena Educational Foundation Eaton Fire Response Fund, the L.A. Regional Food Bank, the LAFD Foundation, and Habitat for Humanity of Greater Los Angeles. She also tagged the organizations. Swift didn’t specify how much she donated.
“The fires in California have devastated so many families, and it’s been heartbreaking to see these stories unfold,” Swift wrote. “So much suffering, loss, and destruction. As so many people embark on some of the most challenging times of their lives, there are also many amazing organizations and groups banding together to help these communities rebuild.”
Swift’s post comes as the Palisades and Eaton Fires have destroyed thousands of homes, killed at least 25 people, and forced more than 150,000 residents to evacuate from their homes.
This isn’t the first time Swift has contributed to helping the victims of natural disasters. More recently, she donated $5 million to hurricane relief efforts in Florida in October and $1 million to the Tennessee Emergency Response Fund following devastating tornadoes hit the state in 2023. And 2016, she donated $100,000 to a Dolly Parton fund aimed at helping victims of the Smokey Mountain fires in Tennessee.
Several music artists including Jhené Aiko, Heidi Montag, and Diane Warren were among those who were put under evacuation orders and lost their homes to the natural disaster.
Swift’s post comes a day after the Recording Academy announced it would be canceling some of its industry events that would usually lead up to the Sunday awards to focus efforts on the ongoing fires. The Grammy Awards will go on as planned on February 2.
Outside of the Academy’s events, FireAid, a benefit concert organized by Irving Azoff, Live Nation and AEG Presents, will take place during Grammy Week on Jan. 30. The show’s promoters just announced a star-studded lineup including Billie Eilish and Finneas, Lady Gaga, Stevie Nicks, Joni Mitchell and many more.
