De La Soul to Release Rare EP Featuring A Tribe Called Quest

Clear Lake Auditorium will officially drop in March, over 30 years after it was first recorded in 1994

De La Soul is going deep into the archives, announcing Friday that they will reissue their rare Clear Lake Auditorium EP, over 30 years after recording it.

The hip-hop group originally released just 500 pressings of the EP back in 1994, sharing it as a promotional record for a select number of DJs. The six-track EP includes a collaboration with A Tribe Called Quest called “sh.Fe.Mc’s,” as well as another featuring Tito of The Fearless Four. Clear Lake Auditorium will release on March 7, and it’s available for pre-order now.

Aside from the EP release, De La Soul (minus founding member Trugoy the Dove, who died in 2023) announced that they will perform at Lincoln Center next week on Jan. 17. They’ll also be featured on Peloton’s artist series in February, and on Feb. 6 , they’ll release several remixes of the 3 Feet High and Rising track “Say No Go.”

“It’s incredible to see how our music continues to resonate. From remixes and reissues to live performances, we’re excited to share this journey with fans old and new,” De La Soul’s Posdnuos said in a statement.

De La Soul is one of the most influential hip-hop groups of all time, and their albums finally hit streaming services in 2023 following years of legal troubles due to uncleared samples on their records. They also had disputes with their record label. Back in November, the group denounced the autobiography High and Rising: A Book About De La Soul, threatening legal action against its author Marcus J. Moore.
