The track follows ‘Defense’, out in October, in being released from the album before it comes out on February 28. It’s a mellow four-and-a-half minute number that sees the singer-songwriter and instrumentalist, real name Noah Lennox, dive into his trademark psychedelia for a blissful slice of pop.

Lennox is best known for being a co-founder of the experimental indie band Animal Collective, but has also released six solo albums. His last release was the 2022 album ‘Reset’, a collaborative project with Sonic Boom, while Animal Collective’s last album was 2023’s ‘Isn’t It Now?’.

Sinister Grift is his first solo project in five years, but it sees him work with all of his Animal Collective bandmates on a solo album for the first time.

His bandmate Josh “Deakin” Dibb recorded the album alongside Lennox, and said of the album: “Working on this record felt like a sacred and warm return. Noah and I first started putting music down to multitrack cassette in 1991. 32 years later and working in the same fashion, two friends alone in a room searching for sounds and feelings that move us, I am very proud of what we created together. ‘Sinister Grift’ feels like the songwriter I’ve known for over 30 years but also feels like some sort of new chapter for Noah. Couldn’t be more proud of the result.”

Lennox, meanwhile, will be the “very special guest” on Toro y Moi’s North America tour next month, before dates in Spain and Portugal in March. He’s then back across the Atlantic with Toro y Moi, before some headline shows of his own and then a run of UK and Ireland dates in May and June – find tickets here.

He’s also on the lineup of Jamie xx’s day at London’s new LIDO Festival, alongside the likes of Romy, Arca and Sampha.
