Paul McCartney planning new album for 2025: “How about that for a teaser?”

Paul McCartney has revealed that one of his 2025 New Year’s resolutions is to finish an album.

The former Beatles star, who has just finished his 2024  ‘Got Back’ tour, published a Q and A on his official website, answering end-of-year questions from fans. Topics ranged from his plans for the holiday season and what he is most grateful for. One fan asked McCartney if he has any New Year’s resolutions for 2025.

The musician responded: “Here’s one: finish an album! I’ve been working on a lot of songs, and have had to put it to the side because of the tour. So, I’m hoping to get back into that and finish up a lot of these songs. So, how’s about that? ‘My New Year’s resolution is to finish a new album!’

“How about that for a teaser?”

His last solo album was 2020’s ‘McCartney III’, the long-awaited follow-up to 1970’s ‘McCartney I’ and 1980’s ‘McCartney II’.

While McCartney has no more scheduled shows for 2025, he ended his final London show on December 19 by saying “See you next time”.

He also brought out Beatles bandmate Ringo Starr and Rolling Stones‘ Ronnie Wood. Midway through his set, McCartney introduced ‘Get Back’ by talking about his old bass guitar that was stolen over 50 years ago, before it was finally returned to him earlier this February.

Brandishing it onstage, he revealed that it was the bass’ first stage appearance since it had gone missing: “I haven’t played it in 50 years.”

McCartney continued, building up to another surprise: “And what is more, we’ve got a special guest for you here. A Rolling Stone. Ronnie Wood’. As Wood made his way onstage, the two dove in ‘Get Back’

During the encore segment of the show, McCartney said to the audience – followed by deafening applause: “We’ve got another surprise for you. Bring to the stage the mighty, the one and only Mr Ringo Starr.”

McCartney quipped as Starr walked on: “Should we rock? Get on your kit la”. The two then dove into two Beatles classics, ‘Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band (Reprise)’ and ‘Helter Skelter’.

In other Paul McCartney-related news, Gladiator II director Ridley Scott appears to have confirmed that Paul Mescal will be playing the musician on screen in Sam Mendes’ upcoming Beatles film series.

The four biopic projects, each of which will tell the story of the group from a different band member’s perspective, are set to have a global release in 2027. While casting for the films remains officially unconfirmed, a report in June suggested that Mescal would portray McCartney, while Harris Dickinson would play John Lennon, Barry Keoghan would play Ringo Starr and Charlie Rowe would play George Harrison.
