Dave Grohl‘s daughter Violet is reportedly working on her debut album.
Per The Hollywood Reporter, 18-year-old Violet is “incredibly committed” to “growing as an artist” and making music, per an anonymous source. She is also reportedly making the most of the studio time that she was gifted by her father as a birthday present.
Violet’s album isn’t something that’s come out of nowhere. Back in 2018, she began hitting the road with the Foo Fighters, providing backing vocals for her father during several gigs.
Notably, Violet has performed with them at 2022’s tribute concerts held for late drummer Taylor Hawkins, where she covered Jeff Buckley‘s ‘Last Goodbye’ and ‘Grace’ and The Zutons‘ ‘Valerie’.
Since then, she’s performed with the band a handful of times, even joining them at Glastonbury last year to to perform ‘Show Me How’, a song Dave wrote for his mother.
According to THR‘s source, Violet has been described as “a true torch singer. Her vocals are tremendous. She’s very talented.” For the album, she is also reportedly collaborating with producer Justin Raisen, who has in the past worked with the likes of Kim Gordon, Charli XCX and Sky Ferreira and more.
In January 2021, Dave hailed Violet as “an incredibly talented musician” who can “pick up an instrument and learn it within a week”. He added: “To be her drummer is one of my life dreams.” Around that time, Dave said Violet was considering making a shoegaze album and that he wanted to play on it.
It is currently unclear if Violet’s debut album will still take on a shoegaze sound, or if her tastes have changed since 2021.
This September, Foos frontman Dave Grohl revealed that he had “recently become the father of a new baby daughter, born outside of my marriage”. He added: “I love my wife and my children, and I am doing everything I can to regain their trust and earn their forgiveness.”
The band subsequently cancelled their scheduled headline slot at the Soundside Music Festival. Foo Fighters currently do not have any live dates in their calendar.
Following the revelation about Grohl’s new daughter, the musician’s representatives debunked a viral “love child” post circulating on social media – in which an Instagram user claimed to be the mother of the baby.
