Dua Lipa reacts to Grammys snub for ‘Radical Optimism’: “It would have been nice to be recognised by your industry, especially as a woman”

Dua Lipa has reacted to her latest album ‘Radical Optimism‘ not being nominated at the 67th annual Grammy Awards.

In a new interview with Billboard UK, the pop star discussed her 2020 album ‘Future Nostalgia’ earning her the award for Best Pop Vocal Album at the Grammys in 2021, sharing that the LP allowed her to “grow as an artist, to push boundaries and change” and helped her have “the confidence to make ‘Radical Optimism‘.”

Released on May 3 2024, her third studio LP peaked at Number One on the UK Charts and Number Two on the US Billboard 200. However, it was not nominated for any awards at the 67th Grammy Awards which are set to take place on February 2 at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles, California.

Speaking about the album and the lack of Recording Academy nominations, Lipa told the outlet: “I’m so proud of ‘Radical Optimism’ and where it’s brought me. I love that album and I’m having the time of my life performing it live, and I’ve been able to do things that I thought I could only dream of this year, so I’m really grateful.

“Although it would have been nice to be recognised by your industry, especially as a woman, I’m so proud seeing so many incredible female artists nominated at the Grammys this year.”

In a three-star review of ‘Radical Optimism’, NME shared: “‘Radical Optimism’ offers little to latch on. Later this summer, she’ll headline Glastonbury for the first time and also top the bill at a string of European festivals. It’s the kind of place where ‘Radical Optimism’ might thrive: the album’s beachy vibes feel suited to a festival field’s carefree disposition. You just wish there was a little more to these songs.”

The likes of Sabrina Carpenter, Chappell Roan, Charli XCX and Billie Eilish have all been nominated at next year’s Grammys with Beyoncé leading the pack with 11 nominations in the bag.

The nomination announcement follows last year’s dominance from women in music, and similarly, this year’s noms have so far seen female artists claiming six out of the eight nominations for both albums of the year and record of the year.

In other news, Lipa was one of three artists – alongside Roan and Lady Gaga – to have appeared in Apple TV’s A Carpool Karaoke Christmas.

The festive special aired last night (December 15), with an hour-long instalment of the show put out on Apple’s platforms in a surprise release.
