Drake Awards $10,000 to Winner of Lookalike Contest Thrown in His Honor

Canadian rapper supported the hometown Toronto contest, sharing clips from the competition in his Instagram stories

Drake awarded $10,000 to a fan who won a lookalike competition thrown in his honor. Organized by Casuals Cakery, the contest was held on Saturday in the rapper’s hometown of Toronto.

Prior to the event, Drake apparently got word of the competition taking place and hit up the bakery to show his support. “I’m adding 10 bands to the look alike contest,” he direct messaged Casuals Cakery via Instagram, adding, “As the main prize.” (The original prize included a bottle of Hennessy and a pack of Backwoods cigars.)

The bakery, which shared a screenshot of the exchange, responded, “Just give me a moment to stop hyperventilating this moment. I can’t believe this is ur account and u know about this omg i love you.”

The rapper, who did not attend the competition, shared fan-filmed footage from the event in his Instagram stories. He captioned one with several tears of joy emojis and wrote, “I love this city.”

Following what looked to be some stiff competition of doppelgängers who were judged on style, creativity, and vibes, according to the bakery, the winner who drew the most applause on that criteria emerged: Makayla Chambers. Her Drake ensemble included braided pigtails, a baggy fleece jacket, and a drawn-on beard, as Toronto Star reports.

“It feels great,” the 21-year-old woman told The Star. “It feels like I made it.”

Lookalike contests have become all the rage of late, with fans of celebrities such as Dev Patel, Glen Powell, and Timothée Chalamet, among many others, vying to win the prize for best emulating a favorite celebrity.
