The singer revealed he was “with someone” just two days before “going to hang out with my ex” on John Mayer’s SiriusXM radio show
Shawn Mendes isn’t done dating songwriters. The singer recently went on John Mayer‘s SiriusXM radio show “How’s Life” and revealed several intimate details about his love life.
When Mayer asked Mendes about his trauma regarding relationships, especially in the public eye, the singer was candid. “I’m always gauging whether or not it’s worth talking about the details in these situations,” Mendes started. “For instance, being with someone two days before seeing your ex and communicating two days before that that you’re going to go hangout with your ex,” he added.
Asked to elaborate on the situation, Mendes explained: “So I’m with someone. I, two days before going to hang out with my ex, express, I’m gonna go hang out with my ex because I have unresolved feelings,” Mendes said. “Maybe instead of two days, it could have been two weeks.”
While Mendes did not name names during his conversation with Mayer, this past summer, the singer was rumored to be a part of a love triangle between Sabrina Carpenter and his ex-girlfriend Camila Cabello. Several of Carpenter’s Short ‘N Sweet songs seemed to reference the A-List trio. On “Sharpest Tool,” Carpenter sang about a guy she was seeing who “found God at [his] ex’s house” and pointed to the same thorny situation on “Coincidence.”
Mendes and Cabello dated from 2019 to 2021 before reconnecting for a few months in 2023. While the romance between Mendes and Carpenter was never confirmed, the pair were seen out in L.A. in early 2023.
“It’s a funny feeling to feel like you’re being written about,” Mendes told Mayer, who has also inspired his fair share of break-up songs. The two talked about the importance of learning from mistakes and looking forward to the future. “The biggest lesson I’ve learned is no one gets out of this life without getting hurt, and no one gets out of this life without hurting someone.”
