Noel Gallagher shares mum Peggy’s surprising reaction to Oasis reunion news

Noel Gallagher has revealed his mum’s response to the news that he and brother Liam had organised an Oasis reunion.

The Britpop legends revealed their highly-awaited return to the stage earlier this year, announcing a string of huge stadium gigs in the UK and Ireland to take place next summer. That was then followed by the announcement of dates in North America, South America, Australia, South Korea and Japan.

Despite setting the music world ablaze with the news, and making headlines for the subsequent scramble to get tickets for upcoming shows, it seems that their mother Peggy isn’t as excited about the announcement.

Speaking as part of a new event at the National Portrait Gallery, guitarist, singer and songwriter Noel revealed that his mum “couldn’t give a shit” about the comeback.

“My mum never gave a shit, never. You know what Irish mums are like?” he said (via The Sun). “When we told her we were getting back together, she said, ‘Sure, that will be nice’. That was it.”

He went on to say that he hopes to get her to attend one of their stadium shows when the time comes. “We’ll try and get her to Dublin,” he added, referring to the band’s upcoming shows at Croke Park.

The comments made by Noel come weeks after brother Liam made his return to Twitter following the news and joked that Peggy would have to face the extensive queues and buy a ticket herself if she wanted to see them live.

“OASIS are back your welcome and I hear there ATTITUDE STINKS good to know somethings never change,” he wrote on Twitter, acknowledging the complaints from fans over the ticketing scandal.

When a fan asked how Peggy felt about the two of them getting back together for shows he quipped: “She’s gutted she couldn’t get a ticket”, before responding to someone who suggested he gives her a free ticket by writing: “Free don’t be silly?”.

Their mother has spoken out about the Oasis split in the past, and in 2011 came forward to urge them both to end their feud and stop a legal battle they were both involved in. Speaking at the time, she said that she wanted them both to “sort it out”.

Shortly before then, she was reported as making another call for peace between the two brothers, reportedly urging them to sort out their differences in the hope that Liam would be in attendance at Noel’s wedding.

Later, in 2019, Liam offered his “sincere apologies” to his mother and niece for getting “caught up in all of this childish behaviour” between him and his brother.

Elsewhere at his appearance at the National Portrait Gallery in London – held as part of the ‘Zoë Law: Legends’ exhibition – Noel was asked if he believed he and brother Liam would behave as wildly as they did in their ‘90s heyday.

“No, it won’t be as raucous as back in the day, because we’re on the wrong side of 50 now, so we’re too old,” he responded.

Following the revelation that they’d be returning, Oasis ruled out a headline performance at Glastonbury 2025 and said they won’t be appearing at any other festivals next summer. Liam and Noel have also shot down rumours of a return to Knebworth in 2026 too.

The band have announced that Cage The Elephant will be serving as opening support on their North American leg while former Verve frontman and soloist Richard Ashcroft and  Cast will be joining the Mancunian icons on their UK and Ireland dates.

In other news, Liam recently went back on his claims that the band are currently recording a new album, telling fans “It was a laugh”.
