After supplying fans with nearly five decades of pop and dance anthems, Cher announced she may have one project left to release. During an interview at the London’s Lyceum Theatre Monday in support of her new memoir, Cher: The Memoir, Part One, the singer said her next album is “probably my last.”
“I’m really excited,” Cher said of the project, according to The Sun. “They are great songs and I’m just really excited that I’m doing it. I’m really excited to be doing anything now.”
The 78-year-old singer also joked about her age, encouraging younger generations to take risks and look excitedly to the future. “I’m older than dirt now, OK?” Cher said. “I’m the oldest person I meet in almost every room unless I’m in an old folks’ home.”
The album will be Cher’s first to feature original songs since her 2013 album Closer to the Truth. Last year, she released a holiday album, Christmas, which featured artists like Tyga, Michael Bublé, and Stevie Wonder.
Earlier this month, Cher confirmed on The Tonight Show that she was making new music after Jimmy Fallon asked whether she would ever make another album. “I’m about to,” Cher replied. Though she’s teased the project, Cher has yet to offer any additional details, like when it might come out.
In her memoir, released Nov. 19, Cher chronicled her life as Cherilyn Sarkisian, her early stardom, including meeting and marrying Sonny Bono, and forming the husband-and-wife Sixties duo Sonny & Cher. The second installment of her memoir, dubbed Part Two, will hit bookshelves next year.
Last month, Cher closed out the revived Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show with “Strong Enough” and “Believe.” Cher also joined a coterie of select musicians in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in October. Ozzy Osbourne, A Tribe Called Quest, and Mary J. Blige were among the other musicians also inducted.
