TV On The Radio frontman Tunde Adebimpe has signed a new record deal with Sub Pop – listen to his debut solo single ‘Magnetic’ below.
The song is set to appear on the singer-songwriter and actor’s first solo album, details of which have not yet been shared. However, the project is currently slated for a 2025 release.
In a statement, Sub Pop co-founder Jonathan Poneman said: “We heartily welcome Tunde Adebimpe to Sub Pop’s roster of artists.
His inclusion makes the whole lot better – and a whole lot classier! We’ve waited 20-plus years for Sub Pop to earn the chance to be Tunde Adebimpe’s label.”
The Seattle-based independent label is also home to the likes of Father John Misty, Suki Waterhouse, Beach House and Weyes Blood.
Adebimpe co-produced ‘Magnetic’ with Wilder Zoby. “I was thinking about my time in space/ I was thinking about the human race,” Adebimpe sings in the fuzzy, upbeat track. “In the age of tenderness and rage…”
Tune in here:
Adebimpe’s has previously collaborated with acts such as Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Massive Attack and Run The Jewels, and contributed solo music to Grand Theft Auto V, Sleater Kinney’s ‘Dig Me Out’ covers album and more.
TV On The Radio released their fifth and most recent studio album, ‘Seeds’, back in 2014.
Next month, they’ll play some reunion shows in New York before taking to the stage in Los Angeles and London in December. David Andrew Sitek is unable to participate in the gigs but remains in the band, a representative told Pitchfork.
It has since been confirmed that TV On The Radio will perform at Primavera Sound in Barcelona next summer, and support Khruangbin at their huge outdoor gig at London’s Gunnersbury Park.
The group will share a reissue of their 2004 debut album, ‘Desperate Youth, Bloodthirsty Babes’, on November 15 for its 20th anniversary. It’ll contain five additional tracks including ‘Final Fantasy’ – an early demo that arrived last month.
TV On The Radio had teased their comeback on social media in August.
Adebimpe recently played a supporting role in Twisters, starring Glen Powell and Daisy Edgar-Jones. His other acting credits include the forthcoming Disney+ series Star Wars: Skeleton Crew and the 2008 film Rachel Getting Married.
While promoting Twisters earlier this year, he told Stereogum: “I can say that I just wrapped up my own record. And that will be out … in the future.
“And you … I can say … you might have an opportunity to buy a ticket to something related to that, or something related to TV On The Radio … in a while.”
