Soccer Mommy Marries Purple-Haired Lover in ‘Abigail’ Music Video

Soccer Mommy has shared “Abigail,” a delicate, indie-rock tune about a purple-haired lover of the same name, which will appear on her upcoming sixth album, Evergreen. The album arrives Friday.

Soccer Mommy sings sweetly over gentle guitar strums as she admires her future wife’s interests. “I know all your favorite things/Chocolate cake and shooter games/And making music in the rain when no one is around,” she sings. In an accompanying video, set in the farm simulation game Stardew Valley, Soccer Mommy courts and wins over a digital depiction of Abigail, ending the three-minute video as a happily married couple.

“Abigail” marks the fourth single off Evergreen. Her third single, “Driver,” strays from the acoustic notes of previous singles “M” and “Lost,” and ups the ante as she sings, “I’m a five-foot-four engine waiting to move/I’m a test of his patience with all that I do,” over electric guitar riffs.

With support from acoustic guitars, flutes, and lush strings, Soccer Mommy returns to her roots in Evergreen, and wants listeners to feel like “you’re laying outside, eyes closed, the sun is on you, and you can feel the warmth & flowers & trees,” she wrote in a statement. Fans can do just that with the Soccer Mommy Evergreen’s Listening Quest, a listening experience launching Wednesday that grants fans early access to the album by heading to their nearest park and selecting the quest link.

Soccer Mommy’s tour, in support of Evergreen, launches in January. She’ll perform in Atlanta on Jan. 22 before heading to Brooklyn, Boston, Dallas, Los Angeles, and other cities. She’ll begin her European leg in April. Evergreen follows Sometimes, Forever, a dreamy indie-rock album released in 2022.
