The Rolling Stones guitarist and songwriter made an impromptu appearance, alongside Eagles‘ Vince Gill, Emmylou Harris, and drummer Steve Jordan, to induct former Elvis Presley guitarist James Burton.

Richards’ appearance was reportedly kept under wraps, to even Burton until Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum CEO Kyle Young announced him to the stage. Burton later reached, saying: “What a surprise. They’re all my heroes, all these guys I work with. And I want to thank God for giving me a small part of being with these people. I’m so honoured; I love them all.”

The four musicians joined forced to perform ‘I Can’t Dance’, a Tom T. Hall song recorded by Gram Parsons in 1973. You can watch the footage below.

The Rolling Stones released their critically acclaimed album ‘Hackney Diamonds’ last year – their first studio album of new material since 2005’s ‘A Bigger Bang’. NME described the record as an “absolute barnstormer”.

The four-star write-up added: “But if ‘Hackney Diamonds’ does round off the most successful career in rock music ever, it wouldn’t be a bad place to leave it. A natural end, but definitely not a normal one.”

Ronnie Woods recently spoke to NME about the “explosive” new songs and how they would translate live. “I have complete faith. We could play the whole album, you know what I mean? But [Mick and Keith] will go, ‘Oh no Ron, that’s so ambitious’. We’re not gonna forget the back catalogue,” he shared.
