While collecting their award for Outstanding Contribution to Music at the Association of Independent Music (AIM) Awards last night (October 17), the Los Angeles duo – comprising brothers Ron and Russell Mael – took a moment to share that they have signed to Transgressive Records for their next LP.
The album – whose title has yet to be revealed – is set to be released sometime next year and will be distributed by Firebird Label Services. This change marks the duo’s return to the indie music community following their reunion with Island Records for their 2023 LP ‘The Girl Is Crying In Her Latte‘.
Transgressive Records shared a post on their official Instagram account with a caption that read: “NEW SIGNING: following the receipt of their Outstanding Contribution To Music Award at the @aim_uk awards last night, we’re delighted to announce the signing of the pioneering duo, @sparks_official! An as yet untitled new studio album, (the band’s 28th!) is set for release in 2025.”
Toby L, the founder of Transgressive Record, also shared an Instagram post celebrating the signing of Sparks. “An honour and utter privilege to welcome the legendary @sparks_official to the @transgressivehq Records roster. They have been an inspiration to me since I first saw them on television as a kid. Their new music is sensational. A lot more soon…,” read the caption.
In a four-star review of Sparks’ ‘The Girl Is Crying In Her Latte’, NME shared that the album “is a reminder that even now, Sparks are completely content with boldly going first, taking their music into ambitious territory no one else has been before, making it easier for other acts to (hopefully) follow suit.”
In other news, The Last Dinner Party recently covered Sparks’ 1974 track ‘This Town Ain’t Big Enough For The Both Of Us’ on their recent LP ‘Prelude To Ecstasy: Acoustics and Covers’.
