The Belgian-Egyptian musician Tamino has started the climb toward his forthcoming third studio album, Every Dawn’s a Mountain, out March 31. The record announcement arrives alongside the release of “Babylon,” its first single performed in one take from the top of a building in New York City in an accompanying live performance video.
“Babylon” is one of 10 songs set to appear on Every Dawn’s a Mountain, most of which were written following the musician’s move to New York and during his time on the road with Mitski earlier this year. The acclaimed singer-songwriter will appear on the album as a featured artist on the duet “Sanctuary.”
“Capturing the right feel while recording proved challenging at times. I’ve never really approached music conceptually. Usually, songwriting feels more like carving away into a self-revealing sculpture rather than carefully implementing a pre-existing blueprint,” Tamino shared in a statement. “After recent developments in my life, however, I did feel a tremendous urge to build a metaphysical altar for what had been lost. The end result, though at times eclectic, feels like the most harmonious record I’ve made to date, with all 10 songs strung together by a same sense of honoring and letting go.”
Following the album’s March release, Tamino will embark on a headlining tour in North America with stops in San Diego, Portland, Seattle, Chicago, Montreal, Brooklyn, Philadelphia, and more. General sale for the run will begin on Friday, Oct. 18 at 10 a.m. local time.
Every Dawn’s a Mountain marks the first full-length LP from Tamino since 2022’s Sahar. “Just as fire can erupt with great force, most of these songs seemed to burst their way into existence,” he shared. “Unabashedly and without warning, they demanded my attention and determined the course of my days. They say the faster the flame burns, the harder it is to catch.”
