Stevie Wonder endorses Kamala Harris: “It takes a woman”

Stevie Wonder has endorsed Kamala Harris as the next president of the United States in a new political ad with Spike Lee.

The video was shared by Harris on Twitter/X, and sees Wonder discuss his friendship with her in a conversation with Lee.

“I was excited about Kamala years before people knew who she was,” Wonder says. “I’m very happy for the future. I’m very happy because I know and believe that she will be the next president of these United States.”

“Not to make you guys feel bad, but it takes a woman,” he continues. “But not just any woman, a wonderful woman. And she has done the work consistently.” Check out the full clip below.

Wonder previously endorsed Harris at the Democratic National Convention back in August. Upon taking to the stage on the DNC’s third night, he told the crowd: “We must keep on keeping on until we are truly a united people of these United States and then we will reach a higher ground,” before performing his 1973 hit ‘Higher Ground’.

He joins artists like Billie Eilish, Taylor Swift, Charli XCX, Beyoncé, Megan Thee Stallion, P!nk, Bon Iver, Quavo, Bruce Springsteen, Olivia Rodrigo and more who have also come out in support of Harris ahead of the election on November 5.

In other Wonder news, recently announced a surprise ‘Sing Your Song! As We Fix Our Nation’s Broken Heart’ 2024 US tour. Check out a full list of dates here and head here to purchase tickets.

The 10 date run of shows comes ahead of the US presidential election on November 5. As per a statement (via Variety), the tour is a call for “joy over anger, kindness over recrimination, peace over war.”

It also shared that “as a special thank you,” the 25-time Grammy winner will be offering a portion of complimentary tickets “to those in our communities who are already working tirelessly to fix our nation’s broken heart.”

The tour shares the same name as Wonder’s most recent single ‘Can We Fix Our Nation’s Broken Heart’ which marked his first new song in four years.

On the track, Wonder reflects on a nation torn apart by strife, miscommunication and sorrow as he sings: “Children marching on the boulevard / Tears are streaming down their face / The tension in the air is so bizarre / Love is gone without a trace.”

It marks his first solo release since 2020, when he brought out ‘Can’t Put It In The Hands Of Fate’ and ‘Where Is Our Love Song’ to christen the launch of his own record label, So What’s The Fuss Music.
