Weezer are returning to ‘Fortnite’ to celebrate 30 years of ‘The Blue Album’

Weezer are returning to Fortnite to celebrate 30 years of their iconic debut ‘The Blue Album’.

Weezer were one of the first bands to embrace Fortnite with their 2019 Weezer World experience and now the band are set to return in open-world crime simulator game Sweat(er) City.

Created using Fortnite’s dedicated engine editor, Sweat(er) City is a 24-player open-world experience, where you have to plan and pull off elaborate heists while avoiding rival gangs.

The limited-time Weezer Sweat(er) City event goes live today (October 11). According to a press release, the experience will “bring the band’s music to live in a series of new and sometimes surprise #weezered in-game moments.” These include a weaponised guitar that plays the iconic ‘Buddy Holly’ riff while developers have also recreated Arnold’s Drive-In, which features in the ‘Buddy Holly’ music video. Players can also snap selfies in front of a blue wall to recreate the album cover and “battle a Rivers Cuomo NPC boss wielding a sweater yarn stun gun”.

Sweat(er) City is all about rocking out with your friends as you pull off the sweetest heists for the best gear,” said Alex Seropian, founder and CEO of developers Look North World. “There’s no band better to provide the soundtrack to the action than Weezer. This partnership embodies the future of interactive entertainment, where music and gaming converge to create immersive, fan-driven experiences. We’re honoured to partner with Weezer and bring them into Sweat(er) City and back to Fortnite!”

“Weezer and Fortnite go together like rock n roll and a diner,” added Weezer’s Rivers Cuomo “So go ahead, drop in to Arnold’s Drive-In. But watch out…you might get weezered.”

Sweat(er) City is available from October 11 to November 11, and players can access the game by entering the Fortnite Creative Island Code 8484-8812-9198.

Weezer have also been celebrating the 30th anniversary of ‘The Blue Album’ with their elaborate ‘Voyage To The Blue Planet’ tour, which finishes tonight in California. The tour will also be available to stream this weekend, while a 30th anniversary reissue of ‘The Blue Album’ is due November 1.
