Earlier this month, Hurricane Helene made landfall across the Southeastern states of the US, laying waste to cities such as Georgia, Florida, North Carolina and many more. At the time of writing, the hurricane has resulted in an estimate of more than 220 deaths, while hundreds of others remain missing. Hundreds of thousands of homes are without power and infrastructural damage is widespread.

Yesterday (October 9), Hurricane Milton hit Florida, and has since been described by exiting President Joe Biden as “the storm of the century” and “the one of the most and worst destructive hurricanes to hit Florida in over a century”.

Now, the non-profit organisation Feeding America has revealed that Taylor Swift has made a “generous $5million donation” that will be used to “help communities rebuild and recover, providing essential food, clean water, and supplies to people affected by these devastating storms.”

Feeding America continued: “Together, we can make a real impact in supporting families as they navigate the challenges ahead. Thank you, Taylor, for standing with us in the movement to end hunger and for helping communities in need.”

This isn’t the first time that Taylor Swift has helped communities in need. Throughout the course of her career-spanning ‘Eras’ tour, the singer-songwriter has quietly made major donations to foodbanks across the US and UK.

Since Hurricane Helene hit earlier this month, Dolly Parton has donated US$1million of her own money to relief efforts, while Morgan Wallen donated half of that to provide aid to those in need. Metallica have also donated $100,000 to Helene relief efforts.

MJ Lenderman also announced the postponement of several US tour dates due to the damage caused by the hurricane – especially in North Carolina, where the musician’s band and their families are based.
