Joe Jonas Searches for Love on New Single ‘What This Could Be’

Joe Jonas has released a new single, “What This Could Be.” The reflective song was co-written by Jonas, Feist, and Dan Nigro, who also produced the track.

“What This Could Be” is accompanied by a visualizer featuring videos and photos from Jonas’ personal collection. The song sees the musician recalling a relationship as he sings, “I’d give up my piece of mind to lose my mind again with you.”

“What This Could Be” follows Jonas’ recent single, “Work It Out.” Both tracks will appear on his forthcoming LP, Music for People Who Believe in Love, out later this year. When Jonas announced the release date for the new single he updated fans that the LP might take longer than expected to arrive. “The album is gonna come out later now because I’m flooded with inspo and want to add some final touches,” he noted on Instagram.

Jonas appeared on an episode of Rolling Stone’s The Breakdown to discuss creating “Work It Out” earlier this summer. As one-third of Jonas Brothers, the musician has previously branched out on his own with his side project DNCE, but the new album marks the first under his own name and built solely around his own experiences.

“I think a lot of the songs, even on my album, are emotional and sometimes heavy,” he told Rolling Stone. “But then there are tunes on there that are also like this where, sonically, I think it’s upbeat and fun, and when you’re dissecting the lyrics, hopefully you’ll realize, okay, we’re talking about some real stuff, and it’s okay to do it in a lighthearted way.”

During a recent chat with Entertainment Weekly, he added that he wanted it to include numerous collaborations. “We packed it with features,” Jonas said. “I was reaching out to a lot of different people because I felt like I wanted to have other narratives and other voices and a lot of duets.”

“I felt like some of the songs lyrically needed somebody else’s voice,” Jonas continued. “A lot of this album is speaking in third person or having a conversation with a fictional version of myself, or a fictional person in my life. Being able to have that [other] voice create that was really special.”
