It was announced this summer that, three years on from the late hyper-pop artist and producer’s death, her family and close collaborators would be releasing an album she was working on at the time of her death.

‘SOPHIE’ was due to drop Friday (September 27) via her label Transgressive Records, but the album is available to hear now on streaming.

SOPHIE’s brother and longtime producer, Benny Long, helped in the creation of the record, which features collaborations with close friends including Kim Petras, Doss, Hannah Diamond, Bibi Bourelly and more.

The full album follows the release of singles ‘Reason Why‘ featuring Kim Petras and BC Kingdom, ‘Berlin Nightmare‘ featuring Evita Manji, ‘One More Time‘ featuring Popstar, ‘Exhilarate‘ featuring Bibi Bourelly, and ‘My Forever’ featuring Cecile Believe.

‘SOPHIE’ is also available to purchase on a double vinyl, with each side representing a different section of the record. The pressings come in black as well as translucent neon pink, clear, and silver. You can order those here.

NME described the new album as “both wildly experimental and unusually safe” in a three-star review.

It continued: “There’s enough diamond material shining in the dirt to make this one of the most inventive posthumous albums that’s been released in recent times – it’s just a shame that the album doesn’t fully execute SOPHIE’s unique vision. But perhaps that’s one more reason to fully treasure what we have left of her, and to do justice to the mark she’s left on pop forever.”

Upon announcing the album, a statement from SOPHIE’s family read: “Sophie didn’t often speak publicly of her private life, preferring to put everything she wanted to articulate in her music. It feels only right to share with the world the music she hoped to release, in the belief that we can all connect with her in this, the form she loved most.”

It concluded: “Sophie gave all of herself to her music. It’s here that she can always be found.”

Elsewhere, SOPHIE is among the rumoured artists who may be featuring on Charli XCX’s ‘Brat’ remix album coming next month.
