Tyler, the Creator and Maxo Kream Reunite in Their ‘Cracc Era’

Maxo Kream and Tyler, the Creator have reunited for a short, but punchy new song, “Cracc Era.”

Tyler produced the song, which clocks in at under two minutes, propelled by a thrumming beat of trash-can percussion, jittery synths, and speaker-rattling bass. In his verse, Tyler drops nods to everything from the film Juno to Chips Ahoy cookies, while Maxo steals the song with this run of lines: “Jackass, Knoxville, double seals and Seroquels/Don’t tattle-tale, lips sealed, if you squeal you get killed/DJ Drama, Navy Seals, cannons in your Gangsta Grillz/Tupac juice I keep the tote/Just like Q, I let it go, whoa.”

“Cracc Era” arrives three years after Maxo and Tyler dropped their 2021 collaboration, “Big Persona,” which earned a Song You Need to Know distinction from Rolling Stone at the time.

For Maxo Kream, “Cracc Era” is the latest song in a steady run of tracks the Houston rapper has released this year, including “Bang the Bus,” “Talkin in Screw” with That Mexican OT, “Letter to My Enemies” with Schema, and “Weight” with Wacotron. Maxo hasn’t released a full-length studio album since his 2021 effort, Weight of the World (which was named one of Rolling Stone’s best hip-hop albums of that year).

Tyler also hasn’t released a new album since 2021’s Call Me If You Get Lost, though he did drop an expanded version of the record — The Estate Sale — with several new songs in 2023. And aside from headlining Coachella earlier this year, and making some pointed, but controversial remarks about the rise of “meme” musicians, he’s been fairly quiet on the music front this year.

Earlier this month, though, it was announced that Tyler would make his feature film debut in Josh Safdie’s upcoming film Marty Supreme. The movie is loosely inspired by pro table tennis player Marty Reisman, and will also star Timothée Chalamet and Gwyneth Paltrow.
