Jane’s Addiction quietly share new single ‘True Love’ after announcing hiatus 

Jane’s Addiction have quietly shared a new single called ‘True Love’ after announcing their hiatus earlier this week. Check it out below.

The iconic alt-rock band recently returned to their original line-up of Perry Farrell, Dave Navarro, Stephen Perkins and Eric Avery, and released the single ‘Imminent Redemption’ – their first new music together in 34 years.

They then embarked on a series of UK shows together, including an intimate comeback gig at Bush Hall, before confirming details of a US tour with Love & Rockets.

However, during a recent show in Boston, tensions began to mount on stage, leading to Farrell shouting at Navarro, before bringing the show to a halt by shoving the guitarist. The band would later go on to apologise to fans, cancel the remainder of their US tour dates and announce a hiatus.

Now, the band have continued with the scheduled release of a new single called ‘True Love’ – sharing the song on Spotify but not posting any promotion for it.

Opening with awe-inspiring, swirling instrumentals, the track goes on to introduce a soothing vocal melody by Farrell, who recalls his first time falling for someone.

While the song has only just been shared officially, the band did give it a live debut while on stage in London earlier this year.

Performing at the aforementioned warm-up gig at Bush Hall, the members introduced the ethereal track into the set and told fans they could expect to see it released at a later date.

That show was their first with the original line-up in decades. While they reunited with bassist Eric Avery back in 2022 – following his departure in 2010 – Navarro had been absent from all live dates due to an extended battle with long COVID. Up until the Bush Hall set, the guitarist had been replaced on stage by both Queen Of The Stone Age’s Troy Van Leeuwen and former Red Hot Chili Pepper, Josh Klinghoffer.

At time of writing, it isn’t yet clear whether any more new material from Jane’s Addiction is set to be released. The band hinted numerous times that they were working on a new album, but nothing has been officially confirmed.

After the onstage debacle in Boston, Jane’s cancelled the follow-up show in Bridgeport, and later told fans that they would be going on a hiatus for the foreseeable.

The update comes after fans began speculating about the future of the group last night, when Navarro shared a cryptic post of him onstage with the caption “Goodnight”, and the members unfollowing one another on Instagram.

Navarro, Avery and Perkins then shared another update with fans, citing the frontman’s “mental health difficulties” as the main factor for the split. “Due to a continuing pattern of behaviour and the mental health difficulties of our singer Perry Farrell, we have come to the conclusion that we have no choice but to discontinue the current US tour,” they wrote.

“Our concern for his personal health and safety as well as our own has left us no alternative. We hope that he will find the help he needs.”

Farrell then shared a separate post, taking responsibility for the events that unfolded in Boston. “This weekend has been incredibly difficult and after having the time and space to reflect, it is only that I apologise to my bandmates, especially Dave Navarro, fans, family and friends for my actions during Friday’s show,” he shared.

“Unfortunately, my breaking point resulted in inexcusable behaviour, and I take full accountability for how I chose to handle the situation.”

Before the split was announced, Farrell’s wife Etty Lau also weighed in on the situation and explained that “frustration had been mounting” within the band. She acknowledged that “there had been a lot of tension and animosity between the members”, which is “the magic that made the band so dynamic.”

At their recently completed UK and European tour, NME gave the band a five-star review for their gig at London’s Roundhouse, which took place just days after the Bush Hall show.

“Now back in full swing, fan-favourites including ‘Mountain Song’, ‘Ain’t No Right’ and ‘Been Caught Stealing’ come in thick and fast, and seem to have a new lease of life that push the set to new heights,” it read.

“Not only does Navarro take every chance he gets to showcase a dizzying number of electrifying licks, but Perkins and Avery hold down the rhythm section with enough intensity to put anyone to shame — all while telepathically knowing when to toy with dynamics and take the renditions in sonic new directions.”
