“Childless dog lady” Stevie Nicks echoes “friend Taylor Swift” and calls on US to “choose the candidate that speaks to you and your beliefs”

Stevie Nicks has followed Taylor Swift’s lead in speaking out about the upcoming US presidential election.

After Swift took to Instagram yesterday (September 10) to announce that she’d be voting for Kamala Harris over Donald Trump in the election, Nicks echoed many of her sentiments in a post of her own.

Describing Swift as her “friend”, the former Fleetwood Mac singer said, “Now is the time to research and choose the candidate that speaks to you and your beliefs. Only 54 days left until the election. Make sure you are registered to vote! Your vote in this election may be one of the most important things you ever do.”

Though Nicks stopped short of explicitly endorsing a candidate or party in her post, she did sign off in the same manner as Swift, writing “Love, Stevie Nicks, Childless Dog Lady”, just as Swift called herself “Childless Cat Lady” in hers.

This was seemingly in response to comments made by Trump’s running mate, JD Vance, last month, in which he described leading Democrat politicians as “childless cat ladies”. At the time Vance’s remarks were widely criticised, including by Jennifer Aniston, who has been open about her own struggles with fertility.

Nicks has said in the past that she made the decision not to have her own children, though she does have a stepson through her ex-husband, Kim Anderson. She told ABC Downtown in 2001 (via Far Out), “My mission maybe wasn’t to be a mom and a wife; maybe my particular mission was to write songs to make moms and wives feel better.”

She’s been friends with Swift for a number of years, after the pair performed at the Grammy Awards together in 2010. On Swift’s song ‘Clara Bow’, from her most recent album ‘The Tortured Poets Department’, she gave Nicks a shout-out, while fans also found a poem written by Nicks in the CD and vinyl editions of the album.

Nicks was also present for one of Swift’s Dublin shows in June as part of her ‘Eras’ tour, during which the singer played ‘Clara Bow‘ live for the first time.

Introducing the song, she told the crowd, “I’ve never played this song live at all and the reason I want to play this tonight is because a friend of mine is here, who is watching the show and has really been one of the reasons why I or any female artist gets to do what we do. She paved the way for us.”

Swift added, “She’s a hero of mine and also someone I could tell her any secret, she’d never tell anybody. She’s really helped me through so much over the years. I’m talking about Stevie Nicks.”

Meanwhile, X owner Elon Musk has responded to Swift’s endorsement of Harris. He wrote on the platform, formerly Twitter, “Fine Taylor … you win … I will give you a child and guard your cats with my life.”
