Pete Doherty and Carl Barat have designed two new Libertines-inspired jackets in collaboration with menswear brand Blue Flowers.
The Mancunian clothing brand designed both new jackets – one trench coach and a bomber jacket – in close collaboration with the band members, who chose fabrics, construction and more design details.
The trench jacket features Doherty’s personal artwork printed inside the jacket lining, while Barât chose a lightweight jacket that would be comfortable to wear while performing on stage.
The bomber jacket also features a special tribute to their Albion Rooms hotel in Margate.
The jackets are now available for pre-order on the Blue Flowers website here. A limited amount will be then available online for the official launch later in 2024.
“Blue Flowers is both inspired and driven by nostalgia, interpreted and reworked for day-to-day wearability,” said Blue Flowers founder Mark Kendrick in a press statement. “We are always looking to work with like-minded artists and musicians, so this project with The Libertines made complete sense.
“Their nod to culture from yesteryear aligns with everything we are about. The band had lots of great ideas that we’ve worked into both designs. We can’t wait to unveil them to everyone.”
NME was invited to tour The Libertines’ Albion Rooms back in 2020, which now serves as the band’s headquarters.
“The band live in three different countries, and the only thing that really binds us without something like this is tour schedules,” shared Barât. “To have a place that’s our own HQ and that we all have equal ownership of and equal input in – that was the dream.”
In more recent news from Doherty, Babyshambles reunited on stage in August during one of the musician’s solo gigs.
It came after he teased a Babyshambles return during an interview with NME earlier in the summer.
“Yeah, I’ve been hearing that,” he said. “There have been whispers of that for a while, but now it looks like it’s actually coming together. You’d have to talk to Jai [his manager] about that because I heard he’d met up with Drew [McConnell, former bassist] last week. I think there might even be dates pencilled in.”
The Libertines’ most recent album, ‘All Quiet On The Eastern Esplanade’, came out earlier this year, with NME writing that the band had “found their voice again”.
The four-star review added: “The band’s first album in nearly a decade doesn’t chase the same intoxicating high as their early material. They sound better for it.”
