Fatman Scoop Suffers Medical Emergency on Stage, Transported to Hospital

The rapper appeared to collapse while performing in Hamden, Connecticut

Fatman Scoop suffered a medical emergency while performing in Hamden, Connecticut, on Friday night.

Hamden mayor Lauren Garrett confirmed the news on social media, writing that while the rapper, whose real name is Isaac Freeman, was on stage at Hamden Town Center Park, he had a “medical emergency” and was “transported by ambulance to the hospital.” The mayor added, “We will provide updates when they are available. Please keep him in your thoughts and prayers.”

Videos posted to X appear to show Scoop collapsing from behind the DJ booth as the music is stopped and another performer continues to address the crowd. Clips online show a hush falling over the audience as bystanders rushed to assist Scoop.

Scoop, who has made a name for himself as a hype man and radio personality, gained prominence with his 1999 single “Be Faithful,” which featured the Crooklyn Clan. The rapper also appeared on Missy Elliott’s massive hit “Lose Control” alongside Ciara. The track reached at Number Three on the Billboard Hot 100. The song’s video would go on to win the Grammy for Best Short Form Music Video, and the track garnered a nod for Best Rap Song.

He also worked with Mariah Carey on 2005’s “It’s Like That,” which featured ad-libs by the rapper. (The track earned Carey a Grammy nomination for Best Female Pop Vocal Performance.)
