Rizzle Kicks announce first new single in eight years, ‘Javelin’

Rizzle Kicks have announced their first new single in eight years, ‘Javelin’ – check out the preview snippet below.

The Brighton hip-hop duo – comprising Jordan Stephens and Harley Alexander-Sule – recently confirmed their comeback on social media, telling fans that “Rizzle Kicks are back”.

They have previously released two studio albums: 2011’s ‘Stereo Typical’ and 2013’s ‘Roaring 20s’. The band’s latest single, ‘Slurp!’, came out in 2016.

Now, Rizzle Kicks have shared details of a brand-new song called ‘Javelin’ on social media. The track is due to arrive next Friday (August 30).

“Our first single back and we couldn’t be more excited to show you what we’ve been working on together,” the group wrote alongside a preview snippet of the official ‘Javelin’ video.

“It’s been so incredible seeing how many of you have stuck around and we’re so grateful for all the support already. Pre-save in bio. LET’S GO ❤️.”

Since Rizzle Kicks, Stephens has spearheaded the mental health awareness campaign #IAMWHOLE, shown off his acting chops in Mae Martin’s Feel Good and hosted the hip-hop quiz show Don’t Hate The Playaz.

In 2021, he spoke to NME about his solo single ‘Star’. “[This song] was initially me talking about coming from two people who’ve had complex, crazy lives – my mum and dad,” Stephens explained.

“And then I’m born and I’ve got my own shit and for some reason I’m in everyone’s fucking face. And everyone’s trying to compete to be there.”

Additionally, he talked about how the music industry had “changed massively” since his days in Rizzle Kicks.

“It’s mad to me. Somebody literally said to me, ‘A good song isn’t good enough any more’,” he told NME. “That was an actual statement I had from somebody who works at one of the biggest music channels in the game, and for me I think it’s a shame.”

You can revisit the full video interview for NME‘s ‘In Conversation’ series above.

Meanwhile, Alexander-Sule has released music under the moniker Jimi Charles Moody.
