In a new preview of Mavericks with Mav Carter and special guest Tyler, The Creator, the rapper was asked about his frustrations with the music industry. Tyler says to Carter: “I don’t wanna seem like a hater. Sometimes I have hater energy ’cause I just think I’m that good.”

He elaborated: “I love this art form so much bro and there’s so many n****s out right now that aren’t musicians that are getting treated like musicians ’cause they make meme records.”

“Publicly, they’ll be like, ‘I don’t give a fuck about music. I just do this shit for money,’” Tyler, The Creator continued. “It’s the spider man meme of the next n***a when every publication is like, ‘Hell yeah, let’s put that out!’ You’re taking up space from n****s like me.”

The complete episode is due to release later today (August 14), and it remains to be seen if the rapper will specifically name some of the meme rappers that he’s calling out. The latest episode of Mavericks with Tyler also teases that he thinks Eminem “owes him an apology”, most likely for calling him a slur on the 2018 album ‘Kamikaze’.

Earlier this year, Tyler brought out Earl Sweatshirt to perform ‘AssMilk’ and ‘RUSTY’ at his Coachella headline set. The performance saw Earl perform a shortened version of ‘AssMilk’, which is taken from Tyler’s debut mixtape ‘Bastard’ (2009), marking the first time the song had been performed live since 2014.

In a four-star review of Tyler, The Creator’s 2024 Coachella headline set, NME shared: “It’s a reflection of the rapper’s cult icon status and a rebuttal to those in his life who didn’t believe in him. “I told n****s I’m gonna have my Coachella one day, and they said, ‘Nope’ – they can all suck this dick right now,” he shares. After tonight, it feels unlikely that anyone will doubt him again.”
