SZA is Packing Her Bags and Moving to ‘Saturn’

The singer surprise dropped the lush new single on Thursday evening

After debuting her lush new single, “Saturn,” at a Grammys commercial this year, SZA surprise released the track on Thursday evening.

The ode to heartbreak begins with the lonely verse: If there’s another universe, please make some noise/Give me a sign/ This can’t be life/If there’s a point to losing love.” The chorus makes the case for teleporting to a new planet entirely as she sings, “Life’s better on Saturn/Got to break this pattern of floatin’ away,” before declaing: “Find something worth saving/It’s all for the taking, I always say.”

When speaking to Rolling Stone last year, SZA discussed her current perspective to finding love. “I feel like I have more to offer than the way I look and my energy, but it’s like, I’m human, that shit is all-encompassing,” she said. “I want to stunt like me when I meet the person I envision me being with. I envision them falling in love with me the way I am. But I guess it’s like I have to release that idea. Maybe it’s because I don’t know if I’ll like the way I am later?”

The new track will likely appear on Lana, SZA’s deluxe version of SOS. Her sophomore album earned her nine Grammy nods, winning three of the nominations including Best Pop Duo/Group Performance, Best Progressive R&B Album and Best R&B Song.

Although SOS released in December 2022, it continued to dominate well into last year and featured at the top of Rolling Stone’s list of the Best Albums of 2023.

She recently featured in Drake’s self-directed video “Rich Baby Daddy” on Valentine’s Day alongside Sexyy Red, and is set to headline the 2024 Osheaga Festival, returning to Montreal this August with Green Day and Noah Kahan. This summer, the “Snooze” singer is also leading the charge at Governors Ball Music Festival in June, together with with Post Malone and The Killers.
