Here’s Why Cardi B Calls Herself ‘Hip-Hop’s Britney Spears’

Cardi B is feeling the drama. The Bronx rapper is comparing herself to Britney Spears when it comes to the intense scrutiny surrounding her life as a celebrity.

Cardi hopped on her Instagram Story on Monday (July 20) and crowned herself as “hip-hop’s Britney Spears” while voicing her frustration with being in the tabloid spotlight.

“I’m really hip-hop’s Britney Spears. I am out here, feeling like motherf–king Britney, because let me tell you something, right,” she said. “I got all the tea on these celebrities, like I know who f–king who and what they’re doing, all that s–t. But guess what? Nobody reports about it. You want to know why? Because nobody gives a f–k.”

Cardi continued: “But when it comes to me, the Brim, I can’t even piss in a motherf–king cup, b—h. You gotta take the good with the bad — it is what it is. People pay for this type of talk. Bringing the motherf–king drama!”

The 33-year-old followed up with a post on X about the pop star. “Just know … I understand Britney Spears.” She’s seemingly speaking about the relationship Spears had with paparazzi and tabloids throughout the 2000s, who followed her every move and later documented her mental health struggles. Spears was placed into a conservatorship in 2008, which ended in 2021 after the pop star’s fight to terminate it succeeded.

Cardi has been spending time in Europe in recent weeks. She traveled to France for Paris Fashion Week, and her love life remains a hot topic of speculation and tabloid fodder. After spending time together in Paris, the “WAP” rapper was spotted over the weekend in Venice, Italy, enjoying dinner with Nigerian soccer goalie Maduka Okoye, according to TMZ.

While Cardi and Spears became superstars in different genres and eras of music, both have proven to be capable hitmakers, with five No. 1s on the Billboard Hot 100 to each their names so far.
