The singer-songwriter performed ‘Castle On The Hill’ at the team’s training camp, and while the players applauded his performance, fans weren’t so full of praise.
“Ed Sheeran live must be a torture method Tuchel must adopt,” one wrote in the comments section in England’s Extra Time podcast while another added: “Imagine having to ensure Ed Sheeran as part of your recovery. Id be even more exhausted after that ordeal.”
Another joked: “Did Norway pay for this gig?” while one fan jibed: “Apparently Sheeran promised to never sing again if we win the tournament. DO NOT LET US DOWN, LADS”.
“Ed Sheeran? it’s like you want england to lose?” concluded another.

Despite the online criticism, Sheeran spoke warmly about performing for the England squad in the podcast.
“Do you know what? 2021 Harry [Kane] got me down the camp and then I met everyone and then I’ve just been to every one once since. It’s been great, it’s been a nice little tradition,” he said.
“It’s the first time I played for the lads in 2021. We bonded and so it’s never a tough crowd.”
On his prediction for the final of the World Cup, he said: “I think it will be an England France final and I think when you get to the final anyone can win and I think it’ll be us.”
Before that England will face Norway in the quarter finals following their dramatic 3-2 win over Mexico which also saw Jordan Henderson injure his wrist in a freak accident while running to join in the singalong to ‘Wonderwall’.
Liam Gallagher has said that he is “ready” to play the Oasis classic live at the final if England get there.
The 1995 hit has become the unofficial soundtrack for the England team at the World Cup this year, with Harry Kane and co. coming together at the end of their recent matches to sing it with fans in the crowd.
Noel Gallagher quickly threw his support behind the track becoming England’s 2026 World Cup anthem, saying the song “belongs to the people”. He also admitted that he “couldn’t believe” that Jude Bellingham really knew the lyrics.
Liam also reacted to the news that ‘Wonderwall’ had seen a 50 per cent spike in streams on Spotify in the UK thanks to the World Cup, and has now said that he’s prepared to fly out to New York stadium and sing the song live if England make it to the final.
Thomas Tuchel’s side are now set to go head-to-head with Norway on Saturday night (July 11), following the latter defeating Brazil 2-1 on Sunday (July 5).
