Kacey Musgraves has shared a new video of her going “undercover” as a giant armadillo to find her new album in stores. Check it out below.
The country star shared the new video on social media yesterday (Monday May 4) in celebration of her new album ‘Middle Of Nowhere’ being dropped last week.
It marked her seventh LP, following on from 2024’s ‘Deeper Well’, and featured some star-studded collaborations with the likes of Willie Nelson, Miranda Lambert and Billy Strings.
In the new social media video, the country music singer is seen dressed head-to-toe in an armadillo outfit and sneaking around Walmart to look for her record. She even goes up to a member of staff to ask if they had the “new Kacey Musgraves” album in stock, to which she is met with the brutal response: “I don’t recognise that name”.
After finding the vinyl, Musgraves is seen picking up a handful, before heading over to a Barnes And Noble store to find some more copies – and reading up about some armadillo facts along the way.
From there, she goes to make her way over to Target to find her album in store again, and rounds off the video by laying on her back in the middle of the road as roadkill.
‘Middle Of Nowhere’ was given a three-and-a-half star review from NME, and praised as one of the country star’s “most thematically cohesive records”.
“As its title evokes, ‘Middle Of Nowhere’ flows with a sense of isolation, its unembellished lyrics and sparser sound creating a real feeling of standing alone in the desert. A resolute sense of solitude is the album’s central theme: not quite loneliness but a choiceful, empowered singledom,” it read.
“It isn’t flawless: a few tracks blur together in the middle stretch, and some lyrical moments fall flat. But the integrity and conviction behind the creative statement more than compensate,” it added. “At a time of maximalism and hyperactivity in music, this grounded, assured commitment to songs that sway rather than stomp feels quietly radical. Though it’s called ‘The Middle of Nowhere’, you get the sense that Musgraves is right where she wants to be.”
Before the record dropped, Musgraves debuted some of the songs during her surprise Coachella 2026 set. It was her first appearance at the festival since 2019.
