Watch Josh Homme and Norah Jones cover Frank and Nancy Sinatra’s ‘Somethin’ Stupid’

Josh Homme and Norah Jones have joined forces to share a cover of Frank and Nancy Sinatra‘s classic track ‘Somethin’ Stupid’.

The two came together to record the song live during taping of the Norah Jones Is Playing Along podcast, which will be available to listen to in full on Tuesday (February 10).

In the cover, the two take on a more jazz-inspired sound than both the original and 2001 cover from Robbie Williams and Nicole Kidman. Homme opens with a blues-tinged riff on the acoustic guitar, before Jones leads the way with a sultry piano melody.

The stripped-back keys continue throughout the cover, as Homme and Jones harmonise throughout. Midway through the cover, the Queens Of The Stone Age frontman lies the guitar face-down on his lap and taps an improvised melody on the back of it.

“Yep, that was good,” he quips part way through the performance, before ending by clapping for Jones and exclaiming that it was “a good one”. Check it out below in the video below, and stream all episodes of the podcast here.

The new duet comes following Queens Of The Stone Age releasing Alive In The Catacombs – a film that captured their unique performance in the underground tombs of Paris – last summer.

After it received a limited cinematic release and was made available for fans to watch online for free, the band embarked on a ‘Catacombs’ inspired tour across the UK, Europe and North America. This saw them backed by an orchestra, and replicating the stripped-back, melancholic spin that they put on their tracks in the film. They closed out the dates at London’s Royal Albert Hall in October.

Since then, the band have been heavily rumoured to be working on the follow-up to ‘In Times New Roman’, with fans suspecting that it will be released later this year.

They will also be hitting the road again this summer, playing at stadiums around the UK, Europe and North American. For shows in the UK and Europe, they will be supporting System Of A Down, and in the US they will be touring with Foo Fighters. As well as joining forces with Norah Jones for the cover of ‘Somethin’ Stupid’, Homme also made an appearance at a recent tribute show to late AC/DC legend Bon Scott. The night was organised by comedian, podcaster, and musician Dean Delray, and also included guests like  Gene Simmons, Bill Burr, and Billy Corgan.
