Cardi B returned to Saturday Night Live last night with performances of ‘Bodega Baddie’ and ‘ErrTime’ – watch below.
The New York rapper has not appeared as the musical guest on the show since the release of her debut album ‘Invasion Of Privacy’ in 2018, but her eight-year absence ended last night (January 31).
She played two tracks from her second record, ‘Am I The Drama?’, which was released in September, on an episode that was hosted by actor Alexander Skarsgård, who was promoting his new films Pillion and The Moment.
‘Bodega Baddie’ saw her playing with a merengue live band and floral dancers, while for ‘ErrTime’, she led a troupe of male dancers on stage amid dramatic black-and-white lighting. Check out both performances here:
‘Am I The Drama?’ was a star-studded affair, featuring contributions from Cash Cobain, Janet Jackson, Kehlani, Lizzo, Selena Gomez, Summer Walker, Tyla and Megan Thee Stallion.
NME gave the album a two-star review, noting: “Ultimately, ‘Am I The Drama?’ is palatable enough for a one-time listen, but nothing here demands a replay. Where ‘Invasion of Privacy’ felt fun and feel-good, its follow-up is bloated, derivative and unsure of its own identity.
“Cardi doesn’t just recycle her past tricks, she half-asses other people’s legacies too, and the result is a bloated, soulless shell that never finds its own voice.”
Elsewhere, Cardi recently reignited her long-running spat with Nicki Minaj after the latter mocked ‘Am I The Drama?’. Vice President JD Vance then got himself involved, supporting Minaj’s take.
Cardi also welcomed her fourth child in November, announcing the birth of a baby boy with her boyfriend, New England Patriots wide receiver Stefon Diggs.
Other recent SNL episodes, meanwhile, have seen performances from Geese and A$AP Rocky, while the next episode is on February 28, with host Connor Storrie from Heated Rivalry and musical guests Mumford & Sons.
