Chris de Burgh will make a cameo in the raunchy TV series Rivals, performing his 1986 classic love song ‘Lady In Red’.
The singer reached number one in several countries with the ballad, which propelled the artist into the mainstream and became the most successful release of his career. The song has also been used in various films and TV shows, most recently Marvel blockbuster Deadpool And Wolverine.
Now, The Sun reports that he will perform the song during a wedding scene in season two of the Disney+ show, which stars David Tennant, Danny Dyer, and Aidan Turner. Based on the novel by the late Jilly Cooper, the show follows the schemes and affairs of an upper class social circle in the 1980s.
The article said the marriage will be between two as-yet-unnamed characters from the show, and comes as the single celebrates the 40th anniversary of it reaching number one in the UK. A show insider told the outlet: “The producers wanted a romantic number that would perfectly encapsulate the late ’80s, so what better choice than ‘Lady In Red’.”
They continued: “And when it came time to have someone perform it, why not get the man himself to do the honours as he’s still out there going strong and hitting the road delivering performances.”
While an exact date is yet to be announced, season two of Rivals will be released this year on Disney+ in the UK, and Hulu in the US.
Last year, cast member David Tennant made a pointed remark about joining the new Harry Potter TV series, due to an ongoing feud with creator J.K. Rowling over the rights of transgender people. “I’m told there’s an executive producer who doesn’t love me on that show,” he joked during a comic con appearance.
