Jack Osbourne has shared an update on the long-mooted biopic about his late father, revealing that a “phenomenal actor” will take on the role of Ozzy.

The film was first announced in 2021, and is set to tell the story of the Prince Of Darkness and his wife and manager, Sharon. It is being written by Oscar-nominee Lee Hall (Rocketman, Billy Elliott), and developed by Sony Pictures and Polygram Entertainment.

Last Summer, it was reported that the project was still in the works after Ozzy died the previous month, aged 76.

Now, during an appearance on Billy Morrison’s SiriusXM show, Jack shared some exciting news about the as-yet-untitled film.

“We are in full steam in the next phase of development with this movie,” he explained (via Blabbermouth). “That’s an acted movie that we’ve been developing with Sony studios for, like, six years already.”

As for who could play the solo icon and Black Sabbath frontman, Jack said: “We have our decided pick, and I can’t say anything [yet], but it’s a phenomenalphenomenal actor.”

He added: “We have a director attached, and we’re doing a rewrite right now.”

Morrison then claimed that his friend and collaborator Ozzy would “get a kick out of” having a film made about his life, to which Jack replied: “Oh, he would. I’d give him updates: ‘Oh, we met with this guy’ and ‘This is happening’.

“And he just would go, ‘I don’t give a shit. Just tell me when it’s out so I can go see it’.”

Sharon confirmed last month that her “main” goal was to finish the biopic. “We have a deal, and we’re looking for people to work on the movie now,” she said during an interview on Piers Morgan Uncensored.

She also sparked rumours that Ozzy’s friend Yungblud could step into the role, when Morgan put his name forward. Looking taken aback, she responded: “I’m not saying a word.”

Sharon revealed that she had an actor in mind, but did not share their name. “Not yet,” she said. However, she did agree with Morgan’s view that the star should be someone who “could capture the real Ozzy”.

Yungblud performed at Black Sabbath’s final-ever show last year, where he gifted Ozzy a custom-made gold cross. He later released his cover of ‘Changes’, and paid tribute to Ozzy at the MTV VMAs 2025. Speaking to NME last August, Yungblud said: “Ozzy was always my north star.” In 2022, both Sharon and Ozzy made cameo appearances in Yungblud’s video for ‘Funeral’.

The Osbourne family previously discussed the forthcoming biopic on an episode of The Osbournes Podcast in 2024.

“By the time they finish this film, I’ll be dead… I wanna be alive to fucking see it,” Ozzy said at the time. Sharon explained: “Movies take forever to make. Forever.”

When asked who she would like to play her in the biopic, Sharon said: “Florence Pugh or the little girl from Game Of Thrones.”

In a statement in 2021, Sharon wrote: “Our relationship at times was often wild, insane and dangerous but it was our undying love that kept us together. We’re thrilled to partner with Sony Pictures and Polygram to bring our story to the screen.”

It was previously reported that the biopic would feature music by Black Sabbath as well as material from Ozzy’s solo career.

Speaking to NME in 2020, Aimée said: “Finding the right kind of actors to portray [Sharon and Ozzy] is going to be challenging, but we’re looking forward to finding some newcomers.

“I think authenticity, vulnerability, charisma, all those kinds of things will be needed to play them, because they’re just both so unique.”

Sharon has explained that she doesn’t want the film to be “squeaky, shiny clean” like the Queen biopic Bohemian Rhapsody.

Ozzy died of a heart attack just weeks after playing at Black Sabbath’s huge farewell show, ‘Back To The Beginning’, in their hometown of Birmingham.

In other news, Sharon recently revealed the touching final words that Ozzy said to her before he passed away. Elsewhere, Jack has said that his late father is visiting family members in their dreams.
