Kim Petras Offers to Send Zohran Mamadani Her New Album If He Does One Thing for NYC

Zohran Mamdani is officially a Bunhead — and Kim Petras has an enticing, animal rights-centric offer for her new fan. On Monday, the New York City mayor-elect shared his love for Petras in Interview, prompting the pop star to come in with a proposal: a copy of her yet-to-be-released album in exchange for banning horse-drawn carriages in Central Park.

“Zohran Mamdani I am willing to privately send you my new album if we can get the horse carriages banned from Central Park,” Petras wrote on X. Her post was accompanied by a screengrab of Mamdani’s conversation with Interview‘s Mel Ottenberg, where the incoming mayor listed Petras’ recent single “I Like Ur Look” as a “great song.”

Petras replied to her own post with a YouTube video screenshot titled “Mamdani makes transition announcement,” adding, “The signs were always there…” — a joke nodding to her identity as a trans woman.

Mamdani previously acknowledged the “significant issue” of horse-drawn carriages in Central Park, and a potential ban was one of the few issues all of NYC’s 2025 mayoral candidates agreed on during the otherwise contentious campaign. Former Gov. Andrew Cuomo, Mamdani’s chief rival, summed it up in September, saying, “This is the one issue where we are all in agreement: Let’s free the horses.”

During an early October campaign event, Mamdani said he wanted to “visit the stables myself” and create a panel to “assess the health of these horses” before deciding what would be the next step. Mamdani added that he planned to work with labor and community leaders to deliver a “just resolution.”

In a statement to Rolling Stone, PETA Director Ashley Byrne celebrated Petras’ advocacy for the New York City horses.

“Kim’s wishes are echoed by the majority of New Yorkers, including Zohran’s supporters,” Byrne said. “We hope his administration ushers in a new era for New York City, in which the cruel spectacle of horses collapsing from illness and exhaustion, having bloody collisions with cars, and making dangerous escapes through Central Park becomes a distant, mortifying, and embarrassing memory.”

In the Dec. 29 interview with Mamdani, the politician was asked about his hype playlist. “I, for some reason, want to listen to Kim Petras or Lil Wayne or Madonna,” he said. “At eight in the morning, it doesn’t make much sense.”

It’s not the first time Mamdani has shared his love for Petras’ music. Last month, a clip of him asking a DJ to play Kim Petras went viral on TikTok and X.
