Seventeen Serenade the Tiny Desk Crowd With 30-Minute Show

The boys of Seventeen were all giggles and smiles as they delivered stripped-back performances of their high-throttle songs while visiting NPR HQ for Tiny Desk on Monday.

Backed by a full band, five of the group’s 13 members — Joshua, Mingyu, Seungkwan, Vernon, and Dino — serenaded the audience, opening their set with a performance of “Super.”

“You guys are so hot. Wow!” said Seungkwan.

“We did not expect this kind of response, you guys are awesome,” said Vernon, before translating for Seungkwan: “We expected a more calm and quiet environment. You guys are awesome!”

The band continued with the ballad “Darl+ing” as they waved their arms during the performance, backed by a jazzy piano, before 2022’s “_World,” which they worked to harmonize.

“This goes out to you!” declared Dino as they introduced the sweet “To You.” The stars then continued into “HBD” as they celebrated the crowd response at NPR. (The group joked that they wanted to perform “Q&A” but couldn’t because it was a woman’s vocal.)

The band continued with “SOS,” Rock With You,” and “Clap.” They closed their 30-minute concert with “Hot” and “Very Nice.” Between songs, the band expressed their appreciation for NPR and their Tiny Desk series.

Missing from the performance was DK, who lost his voice days before the show, according to NPR. The other members learned his parts on the fly.

Their new Tiny Desk appearance comes on the heels of the group’s fifth album Happy Burstday, which they dropped in late May. The LP features production from both Pharrell and Timbaland. The group also recently joined PinkPantheress for a remix of her hit “Illegal,” and S.Coups and Mingyu dropped a duo mini-album in September.
