Check out Laufey’s festive cover of ‘Santa Claus Is Comin’ To Town’

Laufey has shared a playful version of the perennial Christmas classic ‘Santa Claus Is Comin’ To Town’ – check it out below.

The Los Angeles-based, Icelandic-Chinese singer is a veteran of the holiday season, with her ongoing project ‘A Very Laufey Holiday’ having new songs added each Christmas.

Previous festive offerings from the former NME Cover star have included ‘Love To Keep Me Warm’ featuring dodie, ‘The Christmas Waltz’, ‘Christmas Dreaming’ and ‘Santa Baby’, with a video featuring Bill Murray. Last year, she even played an impromptu Christmas live show at London’s St. Pancras station.

This year, she has recorded a cover of ‘Santa Claus Is Comin’ To Town’, the 1934 song by J. Fred Coots and Haven Gillespie that has been a hit for artists including The Jackson 5, Bruce Springsteen, Mariah Carey, Michael Bublé and Lady Gaga.

Check out Laufey’s version, complete with a sweet video of the singer as a young girl, here:

Elsewhere, the singer has announced a UK and European arena tour for February and March 2026, including shows in Manchester, Dublin and London’s O2 Arena. See all the dates here and find any remaining tickets here.

She released her third album ‘A Matter Of Time’ in August, and it has since been nominated for a Grammy for Best Traditional Pop Vocal Album.

In a four-star review, NME wrote: “‘A Matter Of Time’ is just as gorgeous as its predecessors, but this time, there’s more darkness shadowing the gleam. Sometimes that manifests in Laufey’s vocals or lyrics – over the bossa nova swing (and Clairo backing vocals) of ‘Mr. Eclectic’, she elegantly eviscerates men trying to “woo and win” her.”

NME also spoke to Laufey about the making of the album. “There are parts of me that come out in this album that I didn’t dare to put out in the last few,” she said. “The way the album’s sequenced is it starts with this hope and a little bit of fear of love – it’s a first date. And then as the album progresses, it falls more and more into anxiety, and falls apart.”
