Florence + the Machine’s latest studio album Everybody Scream makes noise on Billboard’s album charts (dated Nov. 15), debuting at No. 1 on Top Rock & Alternative Albums, Top Rock Albums, Top Alternative Albums, Top Album Sales, Top Current Album Sales and Indie Store Album Sales. It also launches at No. 4 on the all-genre Billboard 200 and No. 2 on Vinyl Albums.
Led by singer-songwriter Florence Welch, the act now ties Brandi Carlile for the most No. 1s on Top Rock & Alternative Albums, with five leaders each. The ranking began in 2006. (Carlile just hit five No. 1s a week ago.)
Everybody Scream debuts with 56,000 equivalent album units earned in the United States in the week ending Nov. 6, according to Luminate. Of that sum, traditional album sales (purchases of digital download and physical albums) comprise 44,000, with 25,000 of that number on vinyl (a career-high vinyl sales week for the act).
Three songs from Everybody Scream dot the Hot Rock & Alternative Songs chart, led by the debut of “Sympathy Magic” at No. 28. It’s followed by a re-entry of the title track at No. 30 (a new peak) and a debut from “One of the Greats” at No. 44.
The set’s title track is also percolating on Billboard’s airplay charts. On Alternative Airplay, it falls from its peak of No. 10 to No. 12, while on Adult Alternative Airplay, it climbs to a new high of No. 2 (up a spot from a week ago).
