Squeeze Revisit Songs They Wrote as Teenagers for New Album ‘Trixies’

Squeeze dig deep into their songwriting archives for their upcoming album Trixies, a collection of tracks the band wrote in their teenage years well before releasing their 1978 debut album.

For Trixies, Squeeze’s Glenn Tilbrook and Chris Difford journeyed back to their notebooks from when their songwriting partnership first began as teenagers in the mid-1970s, when they penned a series of vignette tracks centered around a fictional nightclub called Trixies.

“The songs that we wrote then astound me. I’m proud of them now, and I’m particularly proud that it was young us that did that. These are very much the same songs that we wrote then,” Tilbrook said in a statement, “The only difference is that now I can teach the songs to the rest of the band. Back then, I didn’t even know what the names of the chords were!”

Difford added, “We fully committed ourselves to songwriting but this was three or four years before we even got to make our first record. Long story short, these were songs that we just didn’t have enough musical experience to record properly.”

Ahead of Trixies’ March 6, 2026, release, Squeeze have shared the first single “Trixies Part One,” which serves as an introduction to the titular nightclub:

Difford added, “It really fills me with joy that at my age we can discover that we wrote such great songs when we were teenagers. I’m very proud of that.”

Trixies, available to preorder now, marks Squeeze’s first album since 2017’s The Knowledge, but fans won’t have to wait another nine years for the “Tempted” group’s next studio LP as a follow-up to Trixies — featuring newly written material — has already been recorded, the band said.

“The act of revisiting the Trixies songs had me in tears,” Tilbrook said, “partly because they’re so good, but also because I’m aware of all the stuff that I’ve still yet to hear and write.”
