Jack White shares viral cover of The White Stripes’ ‘Seven Nation Army’ from streets of Iran

Jack White has shared a viral cover of ‘Seven Nation Army’ being performed on the streets of Iran – watch the clip below.

The White Stripes’ former frontman took to Instagram to post the cover of his 2003 classic, which was originally filmed by journalist Afshin Ismaeli.

In the video, a full busking band can be seen playing the tune in Tehran, with a swarm of locals surrounding them and nodding their heads to the beat. A user called Arshia has claimed his band was the one playing the cover in the viral video.

The video serves as a moment of solidarity – there are women in the video who are seen without hijabs, which is against Iran’s mandatory hijab law. Protests in 2022-2023 were staged over the death of Mahsa Amini, who allegedly violated this law.

Though current president Masoud Pezeshkian has claimed he would ease the enforcement of the mandatory hijab law, the UN Human Rights Council reported last March that Iran “continues to ramp up efforts to restrict the rights of women and girls”.

Recently Jack White joined IDLES on stage to perform ‘Never Fight A Man With A Perm’ at Riot Fest.

IDLES frontman Joe Talbot told the crowd it was “a great honour” to play with White, before White launched into a raucous breakdown.

White also appeared with Ringo Starr to perform The Beatles‘ ‘With A Little Help From My Friends’ at Bourbon & Beyond 2025 in Louisville, Kentucky.

The White Stripes have also been announced as one of this year’s new inductees into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, alongside Cyndi Lauper, OutKast, Soundgarden, Bad Company, Thom Bell, Chubby Checker, Joe Cocker, Nicky Hopkins, Carol Kaye, Salt-N-Pepa, Lenny Waronker and Warren Zevon.

In other news, Scarlett White has shared a TikTok with parents Jack White and Karen Elson after walking her first fashion runway in Paris.
