Depeche Mode announce ‘M’ concert film physical release and new live album

Depeche Mode have announced the physical release of their Depeche Mode: M feature film and details of a new live album, ‘Memento Mori: Mexico City’. Find all the details below.

The band will screen the new movie – directed by Mexican filmmaker Fernando Frías de la Parra – at over 2,500 cinemas across more than 60 countries from next Tuesday (October 28), following its premiere at the 2025 Tribeca Film Festival.

M comprises footage from Dave Gahan and Martin Gore‘s three sold-out shows at the Foro Sol Stadium in Mexico City on their 2023 and 2024 stadium tour, in support of their acclaimed album ‘Memento Mori’ (their first release since the passing of bandmate Andy Fletcher).

The physical release of M is due for release on Friday December 5 on two DVDs, Blu-rays or two CDs.

On the first disc of the package, fans can enjoy “a cinematic journey into the heart of Mexican culture’s relationship with death, framed by riveting live performances from Depeche Mode during their ‘Memento Mori’ tour”. The movie blends concert footage with interpretive interstitials and archival material.

Additionally, the second disc – titled Memento Mori: Mori: Mexico City – boasts a full-length concert film, also directed by Fernando Frías de la Parra at the Mexico City shows in 2023.

What’s more, each bundle includes the 2CD accompanying live album of the same name, featuring over two hours of music from these concerts, as well as four previously unreleased bonus tracks from the ‘Memento Mori’ album sessions. The first of these cuts, ‘In The End’, arrives on streaming platforms this Friday (October 24).

The live album will be available in standalone 2CD and 4LP vinyl formats, too. Both editions come with exclusive live photos from the Foro Sol shows.

Speaking to NME last month, Fernando Frías de la Parra explained how he came to be involved with M, which follows on from Anton Corbijn’s 2019 live film Spirits In The Forest.

“It was decided that the show for release would be shot in Mexico,” he explained. “They asked me for a proposal, and then they knew that they wanted to walk away from working with fans because they had done that recently, and also interviews.”

He continued: “They’d said everything about coming back after the pandemic and the loss of Andrew Fletcher, so they wanted to be more focused on the show and the message of the album.”

The director added that Depeche Mode were “like a religion” in Mexico, adding: “You’ll have people dancing to ‘Enjoy The Silence’ at family parties, and others scouring for it on underground bootleg tapes. There are so many generations who love them and think they’re essential. That’s why the band chose to shoot in Mexico. I’ve been to see them in other countries because I wanted to get familiar with them before shooting. It’s very different.”

Depeche Mode: M hits cinemas for limited screenings from October 28. Visit here for tickets and more information.

Frontman Dave Gahan caught up with NME last year, where he explained what the future might have in store for the band after the ‘Memento Mori’ era.
