Released today (October 10), the track was first teased earlier this month by the BLACKPINK star, marking the singer’s first new material outside of the record-breaking K-pop girl group since releasing her ‘Amortage’ mini-album earlier this February.
‘Eyes Closed’ is a soulful and tender pop track that sees the pair sing about a romantic connection that has historically failed due to their respective pasts: “Say, oh, we should fall in love with our eyes closed / Better if we keep it where we don’t know / The beds we been in, the names and the faces of who we were with / And oh, ain’t nobody perfect but it’s all good / The past can’t hurt us if we don’t look / Let’s let it go, better if we fall in love with our eyes closed.”
Jisoo and former One Direction star Zayn Malik have also released a cinematic sci-fi inspired music video to accompany the track. In the clip, the two are stranded alone in a spaceship as they float around in space.

Ahead of the single’s release, Zayn alluded to new music coming out “soon with another cool collaborator”, which fuelled fans’ speculation that he would be teaming up with the BLACKPINK member ahead of its confirmation. The song’s release also comes after the former One Direction star took his daughter to BLACKPINK’s New York gig back in July.
‘Amortage’ scored a four-star review from NME upon its release earlier this year, with Crystal Bell writing: “There’s always been an enigmatic quality to Jisoo, a sense that she keeps something just out of reach. On ‘Amortage’, she steps forward, but never too close, embracing pop’s timeless pleasures – melody, emotion and a touch of mischief – with quiet self-assurance. It’s not a reinvention, nor does it need to be. Instead, ‘Amortage’ plays to Jisoo’s strengths, proving that evolution doesn’t always have to be explosive to shake things up.”
