Refused announce final shows, reveal “new band has been born” with same members

Refused have announced their final run of farewell shows, and revealed that “a new band has been born” with the same members. Find all the details below.

The Swedish hardcore punk outfit are set to play their last dates in the UK and Europe next month, as confirmed earlier this year. These will follow a 2025 North American leg and a summer of European festival appearances.

They have also scheduled a brief series of South American gigs as part of their ‘Refused Are F**king Dead’ tour.

Taking to social media recently, Refused posted details of a final series of headline shows in Sweden for this December. These will take place in Gothenburg, Norrköping, Stockholm and Umeå. Find ticket details here.

“The last of the last shows are soon upon us and it’s come together better than we could have hoped for,” wrote drummer David Sandström in the caption.

“The lineups are stacked with old friends, comrades and collaborators as well as some of the best newer bands in the heavy, punk and/or violent music spectrum.”

The musician went on to discuss “the reasons for ending the band”. He said that the “most important” ones were to do with Refused never being “good for mine and Dennis [Lyxzén’s] relationship”, and the fact that a new group had “been born within the band”.

“Mattias, Magnus, Dennis and me want to explore that, a band with no baggage, no fans to please, limited only by our wildest musical hopes and dreams,” Sandström added. “We’re very excited about getting around to taming this new wild beast.”

You can read the statement in full in the post above, and find the new dates below.

Speaking to NME at Mad Cool 2025 in July, Sandström explained: “We have other plans for our future, and Refused doesn’t fit in there.”

Lyxzén elaborated: “What we’re doing with Refused is very physical and quite demanding. I already feel like it’s pushing it. In 10 years, I’ll be 62, and that’s not a good look to try and prance around in tight pants.”

The band also discussed the future of the hardcore scene, and how featuring on The Bear’s soundtrack won them some new fans. Watch the video interview in full above.
