Listen to MGMT’s dreamy remix of The Charlatans ‘We Are Love’

MGMT have remixed The Charlatans‘ ‘We Are Love’. Hear it first on NME below.

The band are due to release their long-awaited 14th studio album ‘We Are Love’ on October 31 via BMG. It marks their first album in eight years, following on from 2017’s ‘Different Days’, and you can pre-order/pre-save it here.

In July, they unveiled the album’s title track, which frontman Tim Burgess described to NME as “wildly exciting”, saying: “I could imagine it being a euphoric, transcendent moment. I think great tracks have that transcendence to them, so that’s what I was looking for.”

Now, they’ve shared a hypnotic MGMT remix, which transforms the song into an almost eight-minute-long, disco-imbued, dancefloor anthem, rich in hypnotic 80s synth and pulsating club beats.

Speaking on the collaboration, Burgess says: “Someone mentioned a remix and I just thought we’d go to the absolute best. It was a long shot but long shots sometimes come off.

“A few messages were exchanged and I ended up in L.A. so we met up and not long after, this amazing remix arrived in my in box,” he added. “‘Loss of Life‘ was my favourite album of 2024 so I genuinely felt like I was dreaming when I first played it.” Listen first on NME below.

The upcoming album was produced by Dev Hynes (aka Blood Orange and Lightspeed Champion), Fred Macpherson (Spector, Rachel Chinouriri, Jessica Winter, Taahliah) and the legendary Stephen Street (The Smiths, Blur, The Cranberries).

Speaking to NME back in July about the band’s return after eight years, Burgess said: “We all felt we had to have the desire to make something, to have something to say, to be able to have something worthwhile that we all felt good about. We all love all 11 tracks, which is an amazing feat – for us all to love everything.

“So we’re all very happy with the record – I’m in awe of it. I think it’s the best record that we’ve done. I’m filled with elation and pride around it. I guess there’s times where it felt like a long time coming together. It’s at least two-and-a-half years making this one, off and on. But yeah, it’s great. It’s amazing.”

In other news, The Charlatans appear on the upcoming 30th anniversary reissue of War Child’s landmark 1995 charity album ‘Help’.
